Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend PodCamp Toronto 2024 (PodCampTO) – Canada’s largest and longest running two day digital media unconference. This year, the event was held at George Brown College School of Media and Performing Arts in Toronto.
Fellow arts and culture writer and podcaster, Sammy Younan of My Summer Lair has shared details about the event on his social media over the years. This was my first year attending PodCampTO and it was nice to meet and catch up with Sammy at the event… so much so, that we decided to chat about our highlights from PodCampTO and other fun stuff.
Before I share my conversation with Sammy, I want to share that one of the neat things about PodCampTO’s community. This year I learned from some really interesting people including June Findlay, Kattie Laur, Marco Timpano, Sherley Joseph, and Sean Savage. The whole two-day schedule was packed with really interesting topics and presenters.
PodCamp is a great event for anyone working in digital media (not only podcasting) and at any level of experience. I would also recommend it for students, since it is a no cost-of-entry and equitable event. There are also social and networking mixers, which I missed this year but heard good things about.
To hear more about the event, here is my conversation with Sammy on our respective experiences at PodCamp TO. We also talk about each of our experience as digital media creators, podcasting, and other fun ‘stuff’.
Although we failed to properly thank them when we recorded, I want to send a shoutout to John Leschinski and Jennifer Lanktree from the Canadian Podcast Awards for their efforts and passion for podcasters and digital makers not only in Toronto but across Canada.
They, along with a small team of volunteer organizers spend the year planning, fundraising and recruiting day-of volunteers to help keep PodCamp organized and running smoohtly. So thank you to John, Jennifer and the entire volunteer group who made this year’s PodCamp super fun and informative.
Be sure to follow Sammy’s podcast My Summer Lair and subscribe to his Newsletter. He shares some really great updates and interviews.
And lastly, stay tuned for more updates from yours truly on moving towards more video content and other fun news coming over the next couple of months.
