CAPTURE KILL RELEASE
Dirs. Nick McAnulty, Brian Allan Stewart
Starring Jennifer Fraser, Farhang Ghajar, Jonathan Gates, Rich Piatkowski, Christina Schimmel
A couple plot to murder a random stranger just for the thrill of it, but will they go through with it?
Capture Kill Release is a found-footage film that begins with a couple, Farhang and Jen (Ghajar and Fraser), who plan to kill a random stranger ‘to see how it feels, to see if they can get away with it’ and in a way, to test their relationship.
Although the storytelling method is not novel, McAnulty and Stewart create a film that challenges its audiences. The plot contains enough elements to make one wish to stop watching — all elements work because the directors and especially the leads are successful in drawing the audience in.
Listen to McAnulty speak about how the film came to be, their Toronto premiere at BITS, and reactions.
Capture Kill Release will garner mixed reviews, in my opinion. The premise may not be novel, but it is a good addition to the mix. Good performances by both leads — as a viewer, I did not like either of them — good production, and good to see more Can-Con in the horror genre.
