A World of Shorts is back this month with short films relating to the theme “Past Perfect.” There’s a difference between relishing the past and slavishly reliving it, but it’s a fine line for this cast of characters who can’t seem to let go of yesterday – whether it’s a favourite song, a discarded piece of trash, or a buried memory. Take a nostalgic trip back, to a time and place full of firsts and lasts.
In the line up this month are… NOCTURN
Leanne Welham| UK | 2010 | 15 minutes
Unable to sleep one night, Jody goes to the local 24-hour garage and meets a young couple who turn her night, and her life, upside down.
On club night, the after-hours bus plays host to the usual drunken banter and rowdy cliques. When Kristoffer notices a dangerously sedated teen, he is confronted with a serious situation from his past – and it propels him to take matters into his own hands.
Two female besties, on a mission to recapture the heady days of their youth, have a bad trip en route to discovering that the past has passed.
Can Sibylle rebuild her self-esteem at the expense of the stranger she just met?
Two neighbours have different ideas about wasting time and saving stuff. The ticking clock, and the art of recycling… who knew that hoarding could slow down time and conservation could reorganize it?
An Iranian family moves to Lillehammer, Norway during the early 90s. At first welcomed with open arms by a population preparing for the ’94 Winter Olympics, the new arrivals realize that people are not as friendly as they seemed. A comedic mockumentary that is stuck in the past!
