The playwrightʼs festival that started it all for Latin American playwrights in Canada is going into its sixth year. To date the one of a kind festival has developed the new works of over 20 Latin American writers in Canada. Featuring works by Bruce Gibbons, Jefferson Guzman, Flavia Hevia and Rosa Laborde, the 6th annual De Colores Festival of New Works is fully underway at the Wychwood Theatre, until October 18th.
This yearʼs festival features four new and exciting plays. Paradise Red, presented last night, by Chilean playwright Bruce Gibbons is set in the tone of a dark telenovela and takes on a lesser known side of the Pinochet Fascist Dictatorship: the private lives of the military families who, living in total oblivion in regard to the abuse and violence they created, refuse to face the consequences of their irreparable damage.
The festival continues tonight with two excerpts, and one full play reading on Friday night.
