Last but certainly not least, some of the films to see on the last day of Hot Docs 2018.
Mamacita
10:45am, Scotiabank Theatre 13
Director José Pablo returns to Mexico to fulfill his promise to his 95-year-old grandmother: to shoot a film about her life. But as José Pablo quickly discovers, all her efforts to help others could not heal the deep and dark wounds hidden within her own family. I’m always drawn to films about family dynamics, especially with intriguing matriarchs.

Sol – Redux Program
12:15pm, TIFF Bell Lightbox 4
Beginning as a celebration of Sol’s life, the film intentionally challenges the biased representation of Inuit in the mainstream media, honouring the man who was and going beyond the headlines written about him. I saw the film when it was first screened a few year’s back. Sol’s story has stayed with me since; please see this film.
RUSH tickets available; line up early to avoid disappointment.
Golden Dawn Girls
12:45pm, TIFF Bell Lightbox 2
When the key male leaders of Greece’s far-right political party, Golden Dawn, are imprisoned for organized criminal activity, the task of leadership falls on the shoulders of a daughter, a wife and a mother. Director Håvard Bustnes gains access to their secret chambers and meetings, as he gets almost full access, the women aggressively attempt to control the filming. A disturbing yet very interesting look at the women behind this political movement.

Mr. Fish: Cartooning From The Deep End
6:30pm, Hart House
Political cartoonist Mr. Fish (Dwayne Booth) is known for his provocative, intelligent, and overtly political images that continually challenge the state, and the status quo. Pablo Bryant‘s Mr. Fish: Cartooning From The Deep End gives us an opportunity to learn more about Booth’s work, his family, and the ups and downs of working in an industry that is on its way out.

We Could Be Heroes
8:45pm, Aga Khan Museum
Azzedine Nouiri brings the 2012 London Paralympic gold medal and world record in shot put home to Morocco amid wild fanfare. He assumes his life is about to change, and that his achievement will improve financial and athletic support from the government. Instead he’s immediately forgotten and denied the salary, social care and access to the city’s stadium that his gold medal performance promised.
