El Festival Internacional de Teatro y Derechos Humanos – Rutas Panamericanas – organizado por Aluna Theatre presenta IXOK’, un monologo de teatro-danza escrito por Edgar Flores y Carmen Samayoa y encarnado por Mayahuel Tecozautla. Este monologo habla sobre el conflicto armado en Guatemala desde 1960 hasta 1996, particularmente del genocidio Maya ocurrido entre 1978 y 1984 donde hubo más de 250, 000 víctimas de las cuales más de 45,000 aún están desaparecidas. IXOK’ es una palabra Maya-Quiché que significa MUJER.
Mayahuel Tecozautla es actriz, bailarina y coreógrafa originaria de México D.F. y actualmente radicada en Toronto, Canadá. Ha trabajado en teatro, danza, cine y televisión en México, Canadá y Colombia. Su trabajo artístico como creadora e intérprete involucra la interdisciplina como un medio para comunicarse con el público desde la entraña y el corazón. Mayahuel es la fundadora del Colectivo de Teatro IXOK’, el cual promueve el trabajo de mujeres artistas Latino Americanas residentes en Canadá.

As part of the upcoming International Festival of Theatre and Human Rights (Panamerican Routes), Aluna Theatre will be presenting IXOK’, a solo theatre/dance piece written by Edgar Flores and Carmen Samayoa and beautifully performed by Mayahuel Tecozautla.
The play tackles the military conflict in Guatemala from 1960 to 1996. It specifically talks about the Mayan genocide which occurred between 1978 and 1984 with more than 250,000 victims of whom over 45,000 are still missing today. IXOK’ means WOMAN in Maya-Quiché language.
Mayahuel Tecozautla is an actor, dancer, and choreographer born in Mexico City and based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She has worked in an extensive variety of performing arts settings including theatre, dance, film and TV in Mexico, Canada and Colombia. Mayahuel is the founder of IXOK’ Theatre Collective which creates and produces performing arts work by Latin American women-performing artists based in Canada.
