I have been following the “race” to the 2008 US Presidential elections. I am one who supports the Democrats. To me, the Republicans represent the “old school” and sometimes backward way of thinking. Thus, I am quite keen on seeing who will win the Democratic Party’s nomination: Obama or Clinton?
By the title of this blog, you may guess that I am endorsing Barrack Obama. Why do you ask? Well, not only was he endorsed by members of the Kennedy clan but also, Obama and his wife, Michelle along with their two daugthers are beginning to resemble the Kennedy’s from the JFK era. Does this picture help you understand my point? The happy family; the outfit Michelle Obama is wearing, her accessories, her hairstyle. Some of you may disagree but I believe this is an image that the Obama camp is clearly creating and manipulating. Everything is calculated when it comes to political campaigning and this one image that the Obamas are showcasing is no accident.
I, for one, think this to be a very smart way of campaigning. I am in no way saying that the US of A needs another JFK and Jackie O. However, watching this campaign, has made me realise that many Americans just want a “fresh” perspective. I respect Hillary Clinton’s experience and political legacy thus far. Nonetheless, I am not so keen on seeing another Clinton run the Oval Office. Being a woman, it would be a great feat to see the day when the US will have a woman president. I’m not so sure the time is now; given who the prospects are.
As far as the Republicans are concerned, I really do not think they’ll win many votes in November. Huckabee? No thanks; no reasons necessary. McCain? To me, he seems to have aged a lot in the last four years and sounds dull. And his famous friends include Chuck Norris. I’m not sure many under 25 know who Chuck Norris is. Walker: Texas Ranger anyone? I do not see how either of these two Republicans can create a movement and inspire action in most Americans. I am not going to say that Obama will definitely win the Democratic Nomination. But he’s sure doing better than most imagined. I think he is creating a movement and I do think that he has the motivation to make good changes. Mrs. Clinton may be wrong in assuming that Obama is another movement that will not produce actual changes in the end. If the caucuses and primaries are any indication, Obama has a strong presence. What is evident now is that the November Presidential election will be a very exciting event; to Americans and the rest of the world.
