November marches on with lots of theatre action now on-stage at a venue near you. Here are a few shows that have piqued my interest, and perhaps it will get you curious as well.
Tarragon Theatre is now presenting the world premiere of The Bakelite Masterpiece, written by Tarragon playwright-in-residence Kate Cayley, directed by Tarragon’s Artistic Director Richard Rose and starring two award-winning actors, Geordie Johnson and Irene Poole. Set in the Netherlands in the aftermath of World War II, this penetrating new play exploring art, forgery and war crimes currently running until November 30 in Tarragon’s Extraspace. StarLite Pyrotechnics is presenting Opera Luminata in a unique new musical performance featuring some of the world’s most-loved opera and musical theatre songs, synchronized to a spectacular backdrop of indoor fireworks and atmospheric effects. Featuring 16 singers, this fully staged theatrical performance will run from November 11-15 at Harbourfront Centre’s Fleck Dance Theatre.
Some featured songs for evening include: The Toreador Song (Carmen), Libiamo (La Traviata), Masquerade (Phantom of the Opera), Belle Nuit (The Tales of Hoffman), You’ll Never Walk Alone (Carousel) to name a few.

Soulpepper’s new series of Weekly Cabarets continues this month at the Young Centre every Saturday night at 8:30 pm. Each Cabaret runs for approximately 90 minutes and features a diff erent guest artist or ensemble in an intimate and conversational setting. The following is a list of the artists / ensembles taking part in the series.

Also at the Tarragon this month, the world premiere of Sextet, written and directed by award-winning Morris Panych, one of Canada’s most celebrated playwrights and directors. Chock-full of Panych’s trademark wit, this comic drama about six sexually entangled musicians on an ill-fated winter tour opens November 12th and runs to December 14th in Tarragon’s Mainspace.
