Normally, I do not write ‘What’s On’ posts because plenty of other outlets already do so. However, this weekend appears to have many events taking place in Toronto. It only makes sense that I try to compile them in one place for me to share with you.
The Junction Music Festival
This is a festival showcasing independent music for all ages. It takes place only today, Saturday (Sept 21) within the Junction neighbourhood. There will be live music at various venues on the Dundas West strip, workshops, and of course food and drink. Check out their website for artists performing there today.
Bloor Ossington Folk Festival
For those of you who like folk music, this festival will showcase local musicians. Saturday and Sunday, the festival will take place at Christie Pits Park. Their website and Facebook page have full information on musicians, time, and if any changes may take place.
Queen West Art Crawl
Now on its 11th year, this festival is the home of the Outdoor Art Show and Sale in Trinity-Bellwoods Park, also Saturday and Sunday. But there is so much more to it… You can also take part in a walking tour and attend a talk by one of our featured guest speakers. There are also many art events for people of all ages. There is the family-friendly KidsZone, and the innovative Parkdale Nightcrawl.
Sweet and Treats Festival
This inaugural festival is presented by the Toronto Festival of Ice Cream and Desserts. It also runs from Saturday to Sunday at Sugar Beach. This fun filled event, in support of SickKids Foundation. The list of vendors should be plenty to entice you. Certainly a chance to indulge your sweet tooth and support a good cause.
Word On The Street
For those who love book, hearing stories, and discovering new authors, this is the festival to check out Sunday (Sept 22). The literary festival offers author readings and signing, a kids area, and lots of deals on all things books-related. It brings together some of the largest publishing houses with the smallest niche magazines and everything in between.
Regardless of the bit of rain we may have this weekend, these are a few of the options to enjoy the weekend with family and friends. With umbrella in hand and walking shoes, I think I’ll have plenty to see and do this weekend!
