Created and directed by award-winning comedienne Lindsay Mullan (Second City Mainstage Toronto), and featuring Glenys Marshall (Ottawa-based variety show Small Fish) and Mei Miyazawa (Pachinko, Apple TV+), TEASE is a multi-faceted theatrical experience that entertains with humour and sex appeal while drawing audiences in with its underlying heartfelt message.
“This show features three diversely-talented and multi-hyphenate women, so it feels natural to create a show that is multi-disciplinary and surprising to audiences. We wanted to avoid the trap of creating something too self-serious, while also respecting the realities of how we each move through the world. We’ve focused our efforts on finding a balance between our political views and our silly sensibilities. At the end of the day, we want people to leave this show feeling entertained, empowered, and hopefully armed with a bit more empathy than when they arrived,” says creator/performer/director Lindsay Mullan.
TEASE has performed to sold-out audiences at the Edmonton Fringe Festival (2018) and the Next Stage Theatre Festival (2020). For its current run and for the first time, TEASE will feature a special guest performance at each show, featuring local burlesque, drag, and spoken word performers.
Content Warning: TEASE is for adults only (18+). This show contains nudity, themes of a sexual nature, as well as discussion of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and sexism in the workplace.
Performances of TEASE will run until from March 24, 2024. I attended opening night and I can assure you that you will appreciate every moment. All the numbers are fun, fabulous, well choreographed, and well thought out. If you are planning to attend, I highly encourage you to ‘tip your performers‘ as it is customary at every burlesque show.
There will be two performances on Friday and Saturday nights (7pm and 9:30pm). General admission tickets are $30 and reserved seating is available for $69. Student, arts worker, and group discounts available. Some of the run has sold out; I recommend getting your tickets ASAP at crowstheatre.com.
