Angela Blumberg Dance will premiere its latest creation The Great Dream, a captivating dance performance at the Pia Bouman School Theatre this weekend.
The art piece delves into the concept of life as a dream, challenging the audience to ponder on the many different narratives that make up our existence.
Three Reasons To Experience ‘The Great Dream’
“What if life is just a dream? Would we be amazed at our own existence? Would we discover there is no master narrative, no single version of ourselves, but many?” says Angela Blumberg, the choreographer behind this piece.
Below, Blumberg shares three reasons to experience The Great Dream:
- “The Great Dream captures three aspects of our human existence: energy, transience and dreams. Immerse yourself in a kinesthetic, visual, and emotional experience to explore where you stand in regards to these three themes.
- The Great Dream assembles an intergenerational cast of five adult dancers and one 12-year old dancer. I wanted to challenge the idea of differentiating between ‘shows for adults’ and ‘shows for kids’. I find this separation artificial and decided to create something that transcends categories.
- How to tell a story without words? How to capture the intimate, energetic connection between human beings without being literal? The Great Dream does exactly that thanks to a superb cast and a movement language that blends contemporary dance and dance theatre. Experience the power and subtlety of movement, choreography, sound and lighting design.”
The Great Dream was first presented at the Canadian Opera’s Free Concert Series in March 2024 and has since received critical acclaim for its poised abstraction and minimalistic approach.
This anticipated dance performance will take place on August 2nd and 3rd at the Pia Bouman School in Toronto. Tickets are priced between $25-$30 and are available for purchase online, or at the door (cash only).
