After a sold-out run in 2021, as well as seven Dora nominations and two wins (Outstanding Performance by an Individual & the Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award), Guild Festival Theatre‘s (GFT) Alice In Wonderland will make a spectacular return to Guild Park before touring to theatres across the province.
This production features the talents of the Dora-nominated returning ensemble: Cayne Kitagawa, Muhaddisah, and Michael Williamson. Joining the cast are Alicia Plummer as Alice, and Autumn Davis as the Queen of Hearts and Shayna Burns in multiple roles. Both Alicia and Autumn are Scarborough artists.
The production is directed by GFT’s Tyler J. Seguin and designed by Nancy Anne Perrin.
About The Play
When Alice follows a mysterious White Rabbit, she finds herself in Wonderland, a world where the everyday rules are turned upside down. On her journey, she meets strange characters including the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, and Tweedledum & Tweedledee, but it’s her encounter with the Queen of Hearts whose cries of “Off with her head!” make Alice wonder if she’ll ever find her way home again.
This fast-paced production brings Wonderland to life in a mix of sound, colour and imagination. Whether it’s trading riddles with the Mock Turtle or battling the fearsome Jabberwock. It will bring fun to anyone in the family.
In between rehearsals, I had the pleasure of speaking with production members Alicia Plummer, Cayne Kitagawa and Nancy Anne Perrin. They share great insights into the show, their process, their characters, and what audience can expect from this version of Alice In Wonderland.
GPT’s Alice In Wonderland takes place at Guild Park in Scarborough. The production runs from July 12 – 22, 2023. For location and ticketing information, please visit guildfestivaltheatre.ca.
