TAOS (The Art of Storytelling) is an artistic offering that is rooted in the ancestral theatre tradition, inspired by stories and teachings from the Mayan Pop Vuh. A theatrical journey through cultures, time and space, combining music, poetry, oral storytelling, dance, ritual, and performed in three languages: English, Spanish, Maya (K’iche).
For the children of the grey, los mestizxs, mixed bloods, hijxs de la diáspora. TAOS infuses Indigenous traditions with current cultural aesthetics bringing the audience on a theatrical journey through allegory and myth.
TAOS is the culmination of six years of creative work, created through ceremony in three different countries (Turtle Island – Canada, USA and Iximulew – Guatemala) and it is B’atz’ Recinos’s artistic offering to the community in Tkaronto.
As part of the RISER collaborative project by Why Not Theatre, TAOS, The Art Of Storytelling by Creative Mafia comes to the stages of Toronto at the BMO Incubator Space at The Theatre Centre until May 8th 2022, offering a talk back at the end of every performance.
