Theatre / Live Performances
Winter Solstice
by Roland Schimmelpfennig
A Necessary Angel Theatre Company Production
In association with Canadian Stage and Birdland Theatre
Until February 2
It’s Christmas Eve and Bettina’s mother is staying for the holidays. Tensions rise between Bettina, her husband, and her mother – heightened by the presence of a man her mother met on the train and invited around for drinks. Family dynamics, betrayal, and the inescapable shadow of the past reverberate through this rapid and razor-sharp satire on the rise of the new right.
Winter Solstice is a satirical comedy of manners with real bite.
Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
by Edward Albee
A Canadian Stage Production
Until February 16
Directed by Canadian Stage Artistic Director Brendan Healy. After a university faculty soirée, late one night George and Martha welcome a younger couple, Nick and Honey, into their home.
As the alcohol flows and dawn approaches, the young couple are drawn into George and Martha’s toxic games until the evening reaches its climax in a moment of devastating truth-telling. This gripping play endures as a powerful commentary on society, solidifying its status as one of the best scripts of the last century.

What We Carry
Native Earth Performing Arts
An A’nó:wara Dance Theatre Solo
Choreographed and performed by Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo
Aki Studio
February 6-9 | Evenings 7:30pm, Sunday at 2pm
Told through five scenes and video interstitials, What We Carry is a deeply personal expression of the things that are bigger than words, the things that are sometimes painful and sometimes joyous. Diabo gives these things to dance and music as she explores motherhood, Indigenous language and cultural responsibility, the feminine body, ancestors, and the universal journey.
Illustrated Chaos
By A.C.T. Productions
The Assembly Theatre
Saturday, February 8
This is a fast-paced long-form improv show. The host starts by getting a prompt from the audience. One by one, the performers come out and either draw the prompt or guess what the performer drew before them, without knowing what the original prompt is. Once the game wraps up, the sketches and guesses are revealed, setting the stage for a completely improvised, long-form performance.
Using the absurd, creative, and often bewildering results of the game, our improvisers weave together a cohesive and entertaining scene. Watch as seemingly random doodles and guesses transform into a structured, comedic narrative, showcasing the improvisers’ quick thinking and creativity.
