Forward March Festival: ‘Stand In The Place Where You Live’

Theatre Direct Canada is taking over Earlscourt Park, April 9 and 10, with a weekend full of new works for young audiences this April at the FORWARD MARCH FESTIVAL.

Featuring six brand New Site-Specific Plays for Young Audiences, this year’s festival will travel the Earlscourt Park terrain drawing inspiration from the land and its vibrant community.

Stand In The Place Where You Live marks Theatre Direct’s return to live theatre and is a celebration of reuniting with our audiences, and being together once again.

Festival Lineup

The multi-award winning Tita Collective presents KWENTO, a musical journey into the life of Ara, a young Fillipina who finds the true meaning of community in the Animal Kingdom. Relaxed Performance.

The stilt-walking Seeking Giants Collective presents Thaw Together Now. From the trees. Around the corner. Under that rock. We return in ways never seen before. A theatrical circus promenade to exit our hibernation to rediscover home. Audio Described Performance.

The Arts4All community presents The Pigeon and The Snail, a fable told by snails, pigeons and other creatures about the places we call home. Touch Tour Available.

Play a round with Colouring Book Theatre in The Assembly at Earlscourt Park, this interactive
theatre-meets-board game experience invites you to join the Labyrinth Assembly and decide the
fate of your community with your teammates…the audience! ASL Interpretation Offered.

Passing Through Theatre presents Why the River Sings, an immersive theatrical
experience inspired and informed by the history of Toronto’s famous lost river, Garrison Creek. ASL Interpretation Offered.

Theatre Direct’s Teen-in-Residence Simaiya Shirley presents A Perspective on Humanity, a
selection of exciting new writing and original artwork including poems: “A Sleeping Femme
Fatale,” “Plastic Love,” “Anatomy of A Black Man” and “Oh! to Be Black Woman.”

The FORWARD MARCH FESTIVAL includes a Morning Program (10am) and Afternoon Program (2pm) each with three different shows. Audiences will promenade together across Earlscourt Park from one show to the next.

Each show runs approximately 30 minutes with a 15-minute Q&A followed by a 15-minute travel time to the next show.
