Theatre artist Julie Phan returns to the stage with eight performances of Never Walk Alone, co-produced by PNSNV creative studio and fu-GEN theatre company, and presented at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in repertoire as part of the Genrefuck series.
The show explores the day in the life of Honey, a dancer in Montreal, when her world gets rocked after a mysterious phone call from her estranged mother at the start of her shift on Christmas Eve. It follows as she tries to get through the rest of the workday without losing her composure as things keep getting
worse: the challenges, beauty and banality of sex work are explored through pole dance and humour through the lens of an Asian, Anglophone recovering people pleaser in a rare occurrence of a sex worker telling their own story.
Never Walk Alone has been in development over the last six years, and is finally coming to its first presentation with an all-star creative team. I had the opportunity to speak with Julie about the inspiration for the show along with other insights on the show.
Never Walk Alone is co-produced by creative studio PNSNV, in its inaugural production and fu-GEN Theatre Company— the longest running professional Asian Canadian theatre company in Canada, in association with Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, the longest running queer theatre company in Canada.
