The Alumnae Theatre Company opened its 102nd season with Wendy Wasserstein‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Heidi Chronicles. Over a span of 20 years, the titular character Heidi and her friends seek to achieve political, professional and personal fulfillment in a rapidly-changing world.
Time for another instalment of my Theatre Crawl listings. The month of April has arrived and with it, we have a great many shows to enjoy!
My birthday week has officially begun. To start, I have prepared a personally curated list of shows currently playing or about to premiere on-stage. Help me celebrate by supporting local theatre!
The InspiraTO festival kicks off its 12th season from June 1st – 10th, and will take over Toronto’s historic Alumnae Theatre over nine days. The festival will showcase the work of 24 writers from across the globe. The plays, which made the very competitive cut out of over 450 submissions, address what it means to ‘grow up’.
Alumnae Theatre Company’s 29th annual New Ideas Festival, a three-week, juried celebration of original writing, works-in- progress, and experimental theatre, took place this month.
This year’s festival of 15 new plays was an interesting and eclectic mix, with both established and emerging theatre. The festival is a theatrical lab for writers, directors, and actors to practice and refine their art with the help of a live audience, who are invited to be part of the process by giving both spoken and written feedback following the shows.
