The Greenland Stories Festival is a two-day curated festival of Greenlandic films, taking place this weekend in Toronto.
Featuring thriller, fantasy, romance, and documentary films, the festival aims to showcase Greenland’s stark and beautiful landscapes. It is also another way to explore its identity and reimagine Greenlandic storytelling featuring Greenlandic and Indigenous talent.
Why Greenland?
Although part of the North American continent, geopolitically Greenland is part of Europe. The island is part of the Kingdom of Denmark but has wide-ranging autonomy, which was extended in 2009. As international attention has been focused on Greenland’s geopolitical future, let us be clear, the country has never been for sale.
This first ever landmark film festival offers Canadians a rare cinematic lens into the lives, myths, and aspirations of its people. Tanuka Roy, General Manager of CosmoBlue Media Canada shares, “the Greenland Stories Festival presents a powerful opportunity to bring Greenlandic perspectives to the forefront, and we hope Canadian audiences will be eager to experience their storytelling and learn more from the country’s creative voices through film.”
Presented by CosmoGO, the soon-to-be rebranded platform emerging from CosmoBlue Media’s acquisition of the Cineplex Store, this festival aims to amplify underrepresented northern voices and foster deeper understanding of Arctic sovereignty, culture, and creativity.
