Currently in Toronto, we have The Little Prince: A Physical Theatre Adaptation, a groundbreaking new production at Theatre Passe Muraille (TPM). It is one a truly lovely experience for theatre and The Little Prince fans alike.
This world premiere is led by Deaf artist and storyteller Landon Krentz, reimagines Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved tale through a mesmerizing fusion of physical theatre, Visual Vernacular (VV), American Sign Language (ASL), vertical dance, and immersive projection design.
Directed and dramaturged by Suchiththa Wickremesooriya, this production brings together a stellar creative team, including Vertical Dance Choreographers Julia Taffe & Aeriosa Dance Society, Projection Designer Alessio Convito, Sound Designer Ashley Naomi Skye, and Costume/Set Designer Adriana Bogaard. With a talented cast featuring Landon Krentz, Ebony R. Gooden, Ali Saeedi, Ralista Rodriguez, and Hayley Hudson.
TRANSCENDS SPOKEN LANGUAGE
This adaptation uses the power of movement and visual storytelling to create an experience that speaks directly to the heart.
The audience follows The Little Prince on an interstellar adventure. Along the way, he meets interesting and sometimes quirky inhabitants of various planets. He also makes some some friends along the way. His ‘out of this world’ journey leads him to discover very deep lessons on love, belonging, and the human spirit.

Whether you are familiar with the story of The Little Prince or not, I highly encourage you to make your way to experience this production. From the visuals, the acting and the use of the entire space, you will hopefully, reconnect with your inner child and enjoy every bit of this show.
The performance I attended had audiences of various ages; I particularly loved hearing the “oohs!” and “aahs!” from children and adults alike. We also had a mixed audience in terms of hearing and speaking abilities. We all shared great space together in amazement of the artists and artistry in front of our eyes. A truly memorable and moving experience.
