After 11 days of cinematic moments, and memories, TIFF officially concluded the 49th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival, presented by Rogers, by celebrating the best of the festival with its annual awards slate. A total of 10 awards were handed out, including jury-awarded prizes and the renowned People’s Choice Awards.

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) nominees for the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards (CSA) include 156 television, film, and digital media categories. The annual awards celebrating excellence on-screen are currently taking place this week a.k.a Canadian Screen Week 2024.

Director Fernando Guzzoni‘s latest feature, BLANQUITA, is Chile’s Official Oscar entry for 2022 for International Best Film Category.
The film is inspired by the real-life early 2000s Spiniak Case involving a controversial child prostitution ring which provided services to a number of high-placed politicians and businessmen in Chile. The case divided the Chilean population as it went through the courts, with doubts being cast on the testimony of key witness who was herself caught up in the ring as a minor and accused two senators of abusing her.

Chanda Dancy is an artist and composer for film and other multimedia projects. She has been a fellow of the 2009 Sundance Film Composers Lab, and a winner of the 2002 BMI Pete Carpenter Fellowship for Aspiring Film Composers and the 2004 APM/YMF Music Business Award.
Her composing work includes music for the hit Netflix TV Original THE DEFEATED starring Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), and most recently, the Korean War era epic DEVOTION starring Jonathan Majors (Da 5 Bloods, Loki).

Anna Kuelken, has been selected as the National winner of the 19th annual BMO 1st Art! Competition.
As the National winner Anna has been awarded a cash prize of $15,000 for her film submission, entitled Father Like Son. The 17-minute long film offers a brief look into daily life on the filmmaker’s small family farm. As her young niece and nephew grow and integrate into the farm, they are faced with difficult lessons about empathy and where their food comes from.

Though born out of the tradition of film, the Cinema Unbound Awards expands the reach of cinema as an art form to challenge for whom, by whom, and how stories can be told.
The awards were presented last night, March 4, 2021, which helped start off the 44th Annual Portland International Film Festival.

Canadian Music Week has announced the nominees for the 2015 SiriusXM Indies – 15th Annual Independent Music Awards. Celebrating another year of top independent talent – both Canadian and International – the award show will feature special performances from nominated artists, including The Glorious Sons, Alvvays, Broncho, and Miracles. As well, multi-platinum selling rock act Billy Talent will be headlining the SiriusXM Indies with an exclusive concert performance.

Canadian Music Week has announced nominations for the 18th annual Canadian Radio Music Awards. Among the nominees are Kiesza, MAGIC! and Hedley. This year’s award show will take place on Friday, May 8th at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel. The awards celebrate first-time charted artists and honour individuals or groups with some of the most played songs on Canadian radio.
