The Tribeca Film Festival announced earlier this month that it was moving forward with an online program which is available to registered industry delegates and media.
In an ongoing effort to support Canadian and documentary films of all lengths, I have the pleasure of introducing you to the short documentary On Falling and its director, Josephine Anderson.
Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival announced its full lineup of films selected for the 2020 Festival. Originally scheduled to be revealed on March 24, the announcement was delayed when this year’s Festival, slated for April 30-May 10, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hot Docs’ decision to announce its official selections is mainly to honour and celebrate the hard work of the filmmakers and to support them as they seek opportunities in these difficult times.
Taliesin McEnaney‘s Brain Storm is described as “a poetic, visually arresting and comically haunting look at the ramifications of brain surgery and how one woman finds her way in a reality that is forever different.”

Featuring six strong characters, Marjorie Chan introduces us to these women’s relationship to money and power, and how these can help them get ahead or hinder aspects of their lives.

Canadian Music Week announced today the incomparable Buffy Sainte-Marie as the 2020 recipient of the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award.
“Buffy Sainte-Marie sets the bar for everything the Allan Slaight Humanitarian Spirit Award stands for,” said Gary Slaight, CEO and President of Slaight Communications/Slaight Family Foundation. “For [Sainte-Marie], worldwide success and the status of music legend was not a personal goal, but an opportunity – an opportunity to try to right wrongs, an opportunity to give back to the planet, and an opportunity to alter the course of Indigenous lives through education.”
Aaron Poole is no stranger to many in film, as he has been working as an actor for some time. He has now made the next logical move onto writing and directing.
His short film, Oracle, has been screening at film festivals across Canada garnering awards. The film made its international debut at Slamdance Film Festival this year.
Emily Wilson‘s Danny’s Girl had its World Premiere in the ‘Midnight Shorts Program’ at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.
The film follows the first in-real-life meeting of Danny and Cleo, who have had an intimate online realtionship for some time. Per chance, Danny accidentally discovers something utterly shocking in Cleo’s luggage. When Cleo realizes this, tension and chaos ensue. Amidst the chaos, their mutual vulnerability and desire to connect wins.

As part of my birthday month celebration, I have always wanted to attend a Mozart concert by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. This year, I was a able to attend two concerts… Mozart’s Requiem, with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, and his Symphony No. 40. A total treat!
