This year Hot Docs Board of Directors chose Patricio Guzmán as the recipient of its 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award. As part of the honour, Hot Docs held a retrospective during the festival celebrating Patricio Guzmán’s distinguished career as a director and writer. The Hot Docs Outstanding Achievement Award is presented annually by the Hot Docs Board of Directors in recognition of a filmmaker’s enduring contribution to the documentary form. READ MORE

First Nations activist and lawyer Caleb Behn arrived to Toronto this week to attend the International Premiere of the documentary Fractured Land, at Hot Docs. Caleb is the focal point of this film. Filmmakers Fiona Rayher and Damien Gillis have been following Behn for the past four years to learn more about him, his traditional ways, and about his legal work to advocate for Indigenous people against major extracting companies in Northern B.C. The 29th edition of the TD Toronto Jazz Festival 2015 lineup gets underway this summer as over half a million jazz music fans will come together at over 50 Toronto locations to experience one of the city’s largest music festivals. From June 18 – June 29, over 1, 500 musicians will entertain audiences and start the summer right. READ MORE
Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival‘s upcoming 22nd edition, starting April 23 until May 3, is just around the corner. From 2,724 film submissions, this year’s slate will present 210 titles from 45 countries in 12 screening programs. SHIVER is a new exhibit of mixed media installations by Elaine Whittaker at the Red Head Gallery. Making beauty out of fear, this exhibit viewers are asked to reconsider their notion of beauty, in this precarious time of contagions. READ MORE

Canadian Music Week has announced the nominees for the 2015 SiriusXM Indies – 15th Annual Independent Music Awards. Celebrating another year of top independent talent – both Canadian and International – the award show will feature special performances from nominated artists, including The Glorious Sons, Alvvays, Broncho, and Miracles. As well, multi-platinum selling rock act Billy Talent will be headlining the SiriusXM Indies with an exclusive concert performance.
The awards will take place on Saturday May 9th, at the Grand Ballroom in the Sheraton Centre. READ MORE

One of the well-known festivals in the city, Cinéfranco has been bringing us some of the best in Francophone cinema for the past 18 years.
